How We Collaborate in Innovation Systems

To Strengthen societal system capacity for sustainability transtion - together

Sustainability transitions are multi-actor driven, multi-systemic and multi-level processes.
No single organization can own them.

The Swedish Roadmapper Laboratory therefore operates as part of a wider innovation system of public, private and academic actors – not as an independent delivery organisation.

Our role is to contribute with:

  • research-based methods
  • systems understanding
  • strategic sustainability logic
  • decision instruments

to strengthen the collective ability to reason, design and act in the transition.

We do not replace existing players.
We complement and strengthen them.

This means that we often operate as:

cpacity partner rather than delivery owner

through joint projects, embedded roles, consultancy or instrument development.

Consulting Partnerships

We collaborate with consulting companies in strategy, transition and sustainability.

Our contribution is usually:

  • strategic sustainability framing (via FSSD)
  • system analysis and system modeling
  • transition reasoning
  • simulation based decision support

This enables consultants to offer more strategically coherent and long-term credible transition support.

We are not a competing consultant.
We are a methodology and capability partner.

Public Sector Collaboration

We work with municipalities, regions, public companies and authorities regarding the transition of:

  • energy systems
  • transportsystem
  • bebyggd miljö
  • regional utveckling

Our role is to strengthen system understanding, structure transition reasoning and contribute with strategic clarity.

We support public decision-making.
We do not replace it.

Academic and Research Partnerships

The laboratory is anchored in the SustainTrans Research Team at BTH and collaborates with universities, research institutes and researchers in sustainability transitions, systems analysis, strategic sustainability and applied modelling.

The collaborations support method development, knowledge integration and translation between research and practice.

Networks, Clusters and Innovation Systems

We engage in networks, clusters and innovation platforms where coordination, system understanding and strategic cohesion are critical.

Our contribution is usually:

  • system mapping
  • transition framing
  • structured facilitation

The goal is to create:

common system maps and strategic direction

Technology and Solutions Actors

We are not tied to specific technologies.

We collaborate with technology and solution players when system understanding, integration or strategic positioning is challenging.

Our role is to place solutions in their systemic context, analyze dependencies and assess strategic relevance - so that:

solutions are understood in their contexts, not in isolation
