A Strategic Instrument for Sustainability Transition
Roadmapper Tool is a simulation-based decision instrument that is developed under the umbrella The Swedish Roadmapper Laboratory to support strategic decision-making in complex sustainability transitions.
The tool is anchored in research from the SustainTrans Research Team at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), where the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD) is integrated with system analysis and system dynamic understanding.
All commercial application happens through Roadmapper Consulting, the consultative arm of the laboratory.
This ensures:
- research anchoring
- methodological integrity
- clear commercial guidance
Roadmapper Tool is:
not a dashboard and not a reporting system - but an instrument for strategic reasoning about how systems can be driven towards sustainability.

Why the tool exists
Leaders in energy, infrastructure, industri, cities and public sector areas are increasingly making decisions that form systems over decades while dealing with uncertainties, many actors and complex dynamics. At the same time many sustainability initiatives fail since sustainability is unclearly defined, intervening solutions are fragmented and systemwide consequences are poorly understood.
Roadmapper Tool was developed to address this gap and to make it possible for leaders to:
- explore strategic pathways towards sustainability
- test how solutions interact at systems level
- identify tradeoffs, synergies and conflicts
- see dynamic consequences over time
- discover leverage points in complex systems
This isnot about prediction, but about:
strategic orientation in complexity
From Research to Instrument
A core task forThe Swedish Roadmapper Laboratory ís to:
translate integrated sustainability and systems research to practical decision support.
Roadmapper Tool is a direct expression for this and operates as:
- decision instruments
- research demonstrator
Every application is adapted to:
- the specific system
- relevant sustainability transitions
- the actual decision environment
